What to expect from Blowfish

Seeking support through Blowfish Therapy Inc. will provide you with a counseling experience unlike others. By this, I mean that I am not your typical therapist. I’m real and often find it easy to relate to others. Talking about sex and historically taboo subjects are some of my favorite things on the docket! Clinical jargon isn’t used too much, but profanity is! Moreover, I don’t pretend to have figured out all of life’s challenges. I struggle too, but continue to do my own work and practice embracing my flaws. I can help you do the same.

There’s no way around the sh*t life throws your way, but I can walk through it with you, at your own pace. Together, we’ll share some great “Aha!” moments along with laughter and tears – I can’t freakin’ wait! Therapy shouldn’t be a cold, stale, anxiety-provoking experience. That sounds terrible! With me, you’ll gain awareness, relief, and some practical tools to manage stressors. Whether you’re a first-timer or frequent flyer, I commend your courage. I know seeking out therapy requires vulnerability, which isn’t easy. Thanks for entertaining the idea of bringing me along for the ride!

Therapy Style

My therapy style is pretty laid back - I like to focus on identifying your strengths and helping you to maximize them to overcome your obstacles. For those looking for deeper work beyond a current stressor, I also like to explore ways that past experiences contribute to current functioning. I'm here to help you sort through the things that are difficult, gain insight, and offer you a safe place for you to be open without fear of judgment. Some are looking for practical solutions, while others simply need to unpack things and process through them. Both are great to me.

I tend to utilize an eclectic approach with clients, but draw primarily from a humanistic, person-centered perspective. This dynamic in a therapeutic relationship means I attempt to “meet each client where they are.” This serves as a catalyst, allowing each individual to progress through their unique process of self-discovery. I truly believe each person is doing the best they can with the tools they have at the moment. I also utilize principles from leading psychological modalities such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and Psychodynamic approaches.

My role as a therapist is not to give you advice or change you. Rather, it is to be an understanding, empathic, and non-judgmental support to help guide you to your own choices. Therapy is not one-size-fits-all. What’s right for me may not be right for someone else. Let’s find what’s right for YOU! Together, we can establish goals for therapy, and while I can help you gain insight, I will never push an agenda or risk rupturing our therapeutic relationship.
